DSB 01 PAULA SANTOS works and projects
Based in Porto, Paula Santos is a Portuguese architect whose work, with its declared rigidity and extensive use of concrete, reflects a latent ambition towards monumentality, even in her most modest interventions. She has been active since the early 1990s, and her oeuvre confirms the normative role of structural systems in architecture, whether by uncompromising pragmatism or technical service. Juxtaposed volumes and elements corresponding to various parts of the given programme are said to crystallise in “a composition peopled by incidents”. This monographic volume explores twelve projects by Santos, including student residences, family houses, mixed-use complexes, and more.
